Story 25 (Step 6)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

Today I completed the top right-hand images - streets, coffeeshop, red-colour car (as you can see, the front-seat passenger is looking at me; most of the time, people do that... Guess I do look weird - reading while walking...), two people crossing the traffic road and so on.  Meanwhile, I also did another self-portrait (side-profile) on the top left - looking at the book shelves.  Yah! Now I remember - yesterday I also did few portraits on the extreme left below: they are some Chinese charectors, like "Ah Q", three brothers from the novel of "Home, Spring, Autumn", and "Kong Yi Ji (孔乙己)".

After painting everything, my wife said she loved the traffic scene. :-)

Story 25 (Step 5)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

Today I paid a lot of attention painting the train scene, where I always do some reading on train while I am standing; most of the time, I prefer standing in the middle of the train because that is where the air-con comes from (Singapore weather is always too hot for me!).  Halfway through, my wife advised me not to use too many striking colours such as red and yellow everywhere, because it may end up everywhere seems important, and the viewers may not know where to focus...  Yah, I agree with her, sometimes it is good to listen to my wife...  I mean sometimes only...Hahahaha!

By the way, today's scanning shows that my little one (still in my wife's belly, 5 months already) is girl!  Soooooooo happy (God knows and grants my desire!!!! :-)

Story 25 (Step 4)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

(Close-up)

Now I bring in more novel characters, such as the cruel killer (on the extreme left corner) from "Night Sound"; above him is the innocent lady from "Someone is Missing"; on her right is that sick lady from "Point And Line" who planned for murder procedures; on her right is the killer who always 'skinned' ladies in the novel: " Silence Of The Lamb"; below him is a detective who wanted to take revenge on a few people who caused his sister's suicide - as you can see, he put on his sister's red colour dress inside his coat, acting as if his sister were together with him in the revenge...

Meanwhile I also painted my own figure (again) on the right, standing on MRT and reading (this is also one of my habits)...

Story 25 (Step 3)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

Today I started to paint myself lying on the bed (shown on bottom of the painting), reading novel (I especially love reading detective novels because they bring in a lot of excitement and suspense). As you can see, I input some characters of the novels - such as from “Red Dragon” (the killer whose job is related to the family homevideo and has a dragon tattoo at his back); Maths teacher from “Suspect X” who ends up as a murderer; from “Silence Of The Lamb” where a tough police woman has a muscular arm; and so on... All these images are surrounding me.

Halfway through my painting, my wife commented I must be in a good mood, because the overall colours seem bright and colourful!

Story 25 (Step 2)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

I started to fill in the colours, and input another image on the right - which shows my habit of always holding a book, reading while walking all the way to the coffeeshop for my morning breakfast...

Story 25 (Step 1)

"Story 25", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 122cm, Year: 2011.

This time I would like to express through my artwork - "hungry for knowledge".

I enjoy reading since young.  I recall my mother's office at Seah Street where there were a lot of bookshops, and I had always spent a lot of time hanging around there - reading and viewing the art magazines.  Along the way, somehow I feel that increasing knowledge can help me see things as if like - standing on a high place and able to see things in a wider perspective (that is the reason why I paint myself wearing a tall hat with a big eye-ball).

Note:  By the way, I would like to thank all viewers who have given me encouragement and comments in my blog (especially to the viewer who has suggested that I use H2O oil paints to avoid my sensitive skin from handling oil-based chemicals).

Story 24 (Completion)

"Story 24", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 92cm, Year: 2011.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Story 24 (Step 8)

"Story 24", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 92cm, Year: 2011.

Now, I have completed painting the left hand holding the Bible (written in Chinese - "圣经"), which I seldom read recently - maybe the reason for focus on money; and also completed painting all the containers.  I also included some golden coins (details not finished yet) surrounding the "man" (or shall I describe it as - "half-man, half-machine")???

So far so good!  Quite happy with the painting effect of the two hands!

Sad thing is that, today doctor said I have put on weight again! :-(

Book Cover Design: "异果"

Ink & Marker On A3 Paper, Year: 2011.

What do you think about my new manga story character designs? Do they look cool? Personally I like main character “Rock” (石头) a lot, especially his “pony-tail”, and also the girl on his right, named “Stream” (). Most of the characters are in the picture, and actually I have already started doing this artwork last year, but so far only completed a few pages (too busy)... hahahaha! The monster image (on top left side) is based on my old design in my early 20s, from another manga story plan, named: “House” ().

Story 24 (Step 7)

"Story 24", Acrylic On Canvas, 122cm x 92cm, Year: 2011

At this stage I started to paint the containers below, meanwhile also trying to complete some "grabbers" and hoses.  So far I have not decided whether to write "Holy Bible" on the cover of the book (which the hand is holding) or not???

By the way, today I showed this half-done painting to my art dealer, and he said maybe I could sell it slightly more than S$ 3500... :-)

The Portrait Of Izel

"The Portrait Of Izel", Wax Pencil, Pencil, Ink & Marker On Paper, Year: 2011.

My 5-year-old beautiful niece is so gentle and quiet, as if like a little lamb.  Her face looks actually like her father (my younger brother), while her fair skin takes after her mother.

I went to her home after manga lesson yesterday, saw her so adorable and decided to sketch her down.  She was so shy because it was her first time modelling for me - as you can see, her hands were holding her father's cell-phone as if playing some army games, but her eyes were not looking at the cell-phone at all...

My mother was sitting right next to me whilst I was sketching, fortunately she gave good remarks for my sketch...  Hah!
